It’s true what they say, big things do come in small packages.

The Engine Room is a boutique communications agency offering a wide range of services.

Just like a well-oiled engine, the focus is on getting the job done.

No fuss, it’s as simple as that.

Hi! I’m Sarah-Jane.

I started The Engine Room after becoming increasingly frustrated with how many (not all) large agencies operate. The speed (or lack thereof) in which simple jobs took to complete alongside the unnecessary bureaucracy often impacted not only the work but also the agency-client relationship. It’s an unnecessary headache that no one needs.

To try and avoid this, The Engine Room was born. It’s simple, I believe in getting the job done with as little fuss as possible. Taking away the red tape, I work one-on-one with my clients to provide a tailored approach to their communications, one where no job is too big or too small. I have a global network of incredible professionals that support in specialist projects (photography, videography, etc).

I began my communications career over ten years ago when I joined adidas New Zealand. Rising through the ranks, I was appointed Marketing Manager at the age of 25, responsible for global events such as the 2011 Rugby World Cup. In 2012 I moved with adidas to Singapore, where I was responsible for all brand communications across South East Asia. After taking time to complete two masters degrees in Paris and London, the first in International Affairs and the second in Middle Eastern Studies I now live in the Netherlands with my Dutch partner and help businesses both small and large with all their communications needs.

Brand Strategy

Just like a house needs a solid foundation, for a brand to succeed, it requires a well thought out strategy. Whether its brand positioning, voice and messaging, or design and marketing, we will work together to create a clear path for your brand through a process involving both strategic and creative thinking.

Copywriting / Editing

Do you require copy for your website, digital campaigns, social media materials, sales materials, or internal communications? If the answer is yes, then you need a copywriter. Copywriting is just a fancy name for storytelling, but by choosing the right words and using the right tone, you connect with your audience, helping to create not only trust but also an emotional attachment. To ensure a ‘natural’ voice and impeccable grammar, I provide copywriting and editing services in English only.

Crisis Management

In my opinion, one of the most critical considerations for any brand is to ask itself, what happens when it all goes wrong? And trust me, at some point, it most likely will. Crisis communication is a skill I have acquired from being stuck right in the thick of it. Preparation is vital; having a crisis communication plan in place before an emergency occurs can help save the reputation and public image of your brand. I will work with you to ensure all your ducks are in a row before disaster strikes and help you navigate the situation both during and after a crisis.

Translation Services

Inaccurate and confusing translations are not a good look for your business. The fact is that having your website, marketing, and other business documents translated in English opens up a world of possibilities. There is no direct translation from one language to another without considering context and intention. I will work with you to make sure your translations into English from your source language read well and sound right.

Event Management

Whether you are planning a product launch, conference, press event or party, from planning through to execution, I will make sure that your event stands out from the crowd. From choosing the right location (almost as important as the event itself) to food and drink options that cater to all guests, there is so much that goes into planning a successful event. When it comes to event planning the devil really is in the detail.

Social Media Management

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn and Youtube… post daily and acquire as many likes as possible yes? No. Rather than shouting at your followers why not create a genuine relationship that results in a two-way conversation? Social Media Management means looking at each social channel uniquely and planning interesting and engaging tailored content. I don’t know about you, but nothing screams laziness more than following a brand only to see the exact same post pop up across multiple channels. Good Social Media Management also involves other things such as responding to questions from fans, social listening and most importantly monitoring content to see if it’s actually moving the needle.

Video Production

Video is such a captivating and effective storytelling tool that can really connect emotionally with your audience. From in-depth storytelling to testimonials and everything in between I will work with you to create a compelling narrative that can be told beautifully on film.

Content Creation

Even though it pains me to use the phrase “content is king”, no matter how you look at it having unique, compelling and authentic content is critical when engaging with your audience — it’s a really great way to get people talking and engaging with your brand. Luckily for you, I love creating content. Really good content. Unique content. Content that gets results and that helps you reach your goals, whatever they may be.
